Flooding and Photography

Looking for a unique opportunity to practice your photography skills?  Alton is located on the banks of the unpredictable Mississippi River. The downtown area of Alton is pretty low and is especially susceptible to flooding.
When the river rises, grab your camera and head out for some interesting shots.
If the Flood of 2013 is already over by the time you read this, just be patient. The next flood is always around the corner.

Great River Road from Alton to Grafton IL

Take A Drive On The Great River Road

Follow Highway 100 from Alton to Grafton to experience driving one of the most beautiful roads in America. The road is nestled between the beautiful river and the scenic bluffs towering overhead. Eagles soar above the road during the winter months and the lush foliage puts on a dazzling display during the autumn.

Enjoy a day at the Raging Rivers water park in the summer. Step back into the past with a visit to quaint Elsah. Stop in at Grafton for unique dining and shopping opportunities or take the ferry to see the rolling hills of Calhoun County. Pere Marquette State Park provides hiking, camping, and horseback riding for those seeking outdoor adventure. Traveling along the Great River Road is truly a journey that you will remember.

Crazy Beaver Pizza Lodge Grafton IL

The Crazy Beaver Pizza Lodge is a wood-fired pizza shop along the main street in Grafton. The interior is rustic and dark, welcoming you inside on a hot summer day with a view of the river. They offer beer and hard cider on draft and humongous pizzas.

We ordered the large and ate until we were stuffed and still ended up taking home a half of a pizza.

We also sampled their fried pickles, they were well-seasoned, crisp and crunchy. If you are looking for a cozy restaurant in Grafton that serves good food, check out the Crazy Beaver Pizza Lodge.

Ragin Cajun Piano Bar Alton IL

Enjoy a little slice of of the bayou right here in the river bend. Ragin' Cajun' offers a menu full of New Orleans favorites as well as an extensive beer list.

The onion petals are delicious with a zesty dipping sauce.

The steak po' boy sandwich offered a generous serving of tender steak.
The bourbon bacon cheeseburger had a sweet and smokey flavor.
The dining room was spacious and decorated with fun New Orleans and Louisiana accents.
Sidewalk seating is also available during warm weather.
